POSITION SUMMARY: 

Our Artistic Producer reports directly to the Artistic Director and will oversee all of the producing and casting of the Mainstage and Studio productions at the organization. The Artistic Producer will serve on the senior producing and management team, and will also be a consistent public face for The Rep along with the rest of the Artistic Team. The Artistic Producer will maintain communication channels within the organization and will work closely with all departments to manage flow of information, allotment of resources and calendar management for the season. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, support and/or management of the following areas: pre-production planning an d hiring, casting, active production oversight and oversight and management of artistic budgets. This role also co-manages and is provided assistance by the Artistic Associate. Health, dental and vision insurance

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Producing

  • Lead producer for all Mainstage, TYA and Studio productions.
  • In collaboration with the Artistic Director, develop and support creative teams for all productions.
  • Work with Artistic Director and Director of Production on season calendar and scheduling.
  • Hire Stage Management teams for all productions.
  • Have an understanding of all LORT CBA’s.
  • Attend weekly Production Department Head meetings and weekly Production meetings.
  • Work with the Artistic Director to ensure artistic quality of all the productions and act in the AD’s stead when requested.
  • Collaborate regularly with Artistic Director in the execution of AD’s vision across the organization.
  • Support Company Management with artist hospitality and care in addition to delegating components of artistic support to the Artistic Associate as needed. 

Casting

  • Act as lead casting director for auditions, including scheduling and facilitating with actors and AEA locally and nationally.
  • Act as liaison between casting directors and artistic personnel to create audition schedules which fulfill AEA requirements and the needs of each production.
  • Attend auditions, locally and nationally as needed by the Artistic Director.
  • Scout talent in St. Louis by attending local productions.

Season Planning

  • Work with Artistic Director and Director of Production on selecting and budgeting future seasons.
  • As required, read, see and/or identify potential titles to produce in The Rep’s season.
  • Help to identify emerging performers, directors, choreographers, playwrights etc by attending productions both locally and nationally as needed.

Community Engagement + LACE

  • Act as LACE team’s go-to person for production support as needed within the Artistic Department. 
  • Attend weekly LACE meeting with Artistic Team, call and facilitate additional meeting on TYA production components if needed. 
  • Support the Artistic and Production teams with the Artistic Associate producing the TYA Story2Stage Festival and ITC.  

Administration

  • Maintain responsibility with the Artistic Director for both the Artistic office annual budget, as well as the artistic portion of the production budgets in conversation with the producing team. 
  • Share management of direct report, the Artistic Associate, as agreed upon with the Artistic Director.
  • Occasionally support the Development Department by attending and hosting donor events with the Artistic Team if needed. Hire talent for the annual benefit gala in collaboration with the Artistic Director and chairs. 
  • Support the Marketing department by contributing to newsletters, brochures, and programs with the Artistic Director if needed. Attend and coordinate talent for publicity events as needed. 
  • Make live curtain speeches when necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possesses excellent computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, Google Docs, Dropbox, Zoom, Teams and other various computer programs.
  • Has experience in a fast-paced office environment.
  • A love for the arts and theatre is a plus!
  • Strong analysis and comfort with vocabulary regarding Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.
  • Strong proofreading skills
  • Has the ability to work effectively and independently while handling multiple priorities and deadlines.

 

ENVIRONMENT

This position requires the ability to work seated and standing for several hours at a time. Some filing is required. The work environment is an air-conditioned, smoke-free, office environment. This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. This position may require local, day travel. Working hours are generally during the day time, but will vary depending on company needs.
