The Story
A rollicking, ribald comedy about the seductive power of gambling, full of high style and delicious verse. Amid the lavish excesses of the 17th century French bourgeoisie, young Valere and Angelique share a joyous romance. But when his intended forces his hand, Valere must choose between his love for her and his obsession with gambling. The cards are compelling, but the love plays for keeps.
