POSITION OVERVIEW
The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis is seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Costume Shop Manager to join our dynamic costume team. This key position provides essential support in managing the daily operations of the costume shop, including supervising the costume team, assisting with costume construction and alterations, and collaborating with the Costume Shop Manager on a range of production-related tasks. The Assistant Costume Shop Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring high-quality costume design and craftsmanship across productions, while fostering a positive, inclusive environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administrative Support: Assist the Costume Shop Manager with administrative tasks, including expense tracking, receipt submission, shop documentation, and general paperwork.
- Costume Shop Operations: Maintain the costume shop work area, including costume stock and fitting areas. Ensure the workspace is organized and clean to maximize productivity.
- Production Support: Work closely with the Costume Shop Manager to prepare for fittings and rehearsals, pulling items for the fittings, and ensuring all production needs are met.
- Inclusive Environment: Support a respectful and inclusive environment for performers, designers, and staff in all spaces related to the costume department.
- Costume Construction and Alterations: Assist with the construction, alteration, and fitting of costumes as needed.
- Production Meetings and Rehearsals: Attend production meetings, designer run-throughs, and technical rehearsals, taking notes and assisting the Costume Shop Manager as necessary.
- Opening and Closing the Shop: Help facilitate the opening and closing of the costume shop in rotation with the Costume Shop Manager.
- Expense Tracking: Help project and track expenses for each production, ensuring costs stay within budget.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience: Demonstrated experience in a non-profit regional theatre, LORT theatre, or similar costume department, or a combination of relevant experience and training.
- Leadership Skills: Ability to work independently, exercise judgment, and support staff with guidance and training.
- Sewing & Crafting Skills: Knowledge of costume construction, sewing, patterning, and alterations, as well as experience with industrial and domestic sewing machines.
- Collaboration: Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to work effectively with a team, including costume designers, directors, and other staff.

- Time Management: Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment, meeting deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Comfortable accessing all technical spaces in the theatre.
- Comfortable with exposure to metals, common laundry chemicals, and working in dimly lit areas backstage.

Must be able to interact closely with staff, actors, designers, and other employees in an active open workspace.
