POSITION SUMMARY

The House Management Team consists of a House Manager and one Assistant House Manager. The House Management Team oversees all Front of House operations for all Mainstage (763-seat house) and Studio Theatre (125-seat house) performances, as well as for the Imaginary Theatre Company public performances and other events.  The position entails weekday evening hours and weekend hours.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES

  • Provide support to Lead House Manager in overseeing Front-Of-House staff schedule, maintenance of operational logs and reports, FOH administrative materials, and any cross-departmental tasks as needed.
  • Provide leadership and team support to FOH staff.
  • Ensure that all FOH areas are maintained for safety and tidiness, reporting any/all maintenance or safety issues to Facilities Management and/or Public Safety.

EVENT DUTIES

  • Serve as House Manager-On-Duty for 2-5 performances per week, ensuring safe, courteous and accessible service to patrons, resolving challenges and issues as they arise.
  • Manage and fully supervise the FOH team during scheduled shift/performance.
  • Oversee theatre entrances and seating of patrons to ensure quality standards are maintained in all FOH interactions, coordinating with the Box Office to resolve seating or ticketing issues that may arise.
  • Assist patrons with accessibility and other needs.
  • Maintain communication with Stage Management to coordinate the House opening, start time of performance and start time after intermission.
  • Record, collect, manage and file various daily informational logs and submit a House Management Report for each performance.
  • Serve as point, conduct and direct protocol and procedures for medical and all other emergencies that may arise, communicating and coordinating with Production Manager, Stage Management, Company Management and Public Safety as necessary.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Able to navigate stairs, ramps, between seats, within crowds and maintain a stationary position or stand for hours at a time.
  • Able to navigate all of the above in low lighting or no-lighting conditions.
  • Able to assist patrons with accessibility needs and emergency procedures.
  • Able to carry weight up to 25-40 lbs.

 

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrates skillful verbal communication skills and emotional intelligence, exhibiting a patient, welcoming, courteous, helpful, inclusive and diversity aware demeanor at all times.
  • Must employ skillful critical thinking and reasoning skills with stress-management in handling emergencies or other instances which arise
  • Excellent organizational skills and experience using Microsoft Outlook, Docs, Sheets, Google Docs and Slack required, CRM / ticketing software experience a plus.
  • Experience supervising interconnected teams and leading live events, preferably in a theatre or other performance venue setting.
  • First aid, CPR and other emergency training will be required after hiring.

 

ENVIRONMENT 

This position requires the ability to work standing/walking for several hours at a time. The work environment is an air-conditioned, smoke-free, theatre environment, that often involves low levels of lighting. Night and weekend work are a regular part of this position.
